Is Veganism a laughing matter?
It’s a serious subject. It gets people really worked up, and the majority appear to love making fun of vegans. So vegans do need to develop a bit of a thick skin. But humour can often help get through sticky situations. The comedian Romesh Ranganathan who is a vegan has self-depreciatingly described himself as being “slightly irritating to have round for dinner” before going on to ask why it is that people “hate vegans so much”.
News stories about vegan humour include:
- Romesh Ranganathan made a short and very funny video about his veganism, which BBC put out onto its twitter feed, and was surprised at the level of vitriol that he received as a result. He now funnily enough has a greater respect for “professional trolls”;
- commentary on a Huffington Post list of vegan jokes;
- an apparent drugs bust at Gatwick airport turned out to be little more than cake ingredients for a vegan bakery by the award winning Purezza vegan pizza restaurant, winners of the Pizza Classica category in the 2019 Campionato Mondiale Della Pizza in Italy;
- a wonderful satirical piece about the US Air Force testing “Vegan Napalm”.
